The structure of Casa Mazzone was inaugurated in 2019 and is managed by Svago Viaggi e Turismo s.r.l., a historic company in the area with over 30 years of experience in the sector. Our team of tourism professionals specializes in welcoming guests and is committed to meeting their every need. Located in Cirò, Calabria, Italy, Casa Mazzone offers a comfortable environment for your stay.
Cirò, known as the City of Wine and the Calendar, overlooks a hilltop at 351 meters above sea level. This ancient city has had several names over the centuries, including Ypsicron, Krimisa, and Paternum. You can visit four museums: the Archaeological Museum, the Wine and Peasant Civilization Museum, the Astronomical Museum dedicated to Aloysius Lilius (Luigi Lilio), reformer of the Gregorian Calendar, and the Alchemy Museum dedicated to Giano Lacinio. Other places of interest include Carafa Castle, Cannone Bastion, the Birthplace House, and the Church of San Nicodemo.
The surrounding area, which extends in a plain towards the sea with gentle slopes, enjoys a particularly favorable climate that has favored the production of high-quality wines. In 1969, this area obtained official recognition of Controlled Origin (DOC). The black grapes mainly come from the native Gaglioppo variety, while the white ones come from the Greco vine. Here you can visit numerous excellent wineries and discover the charm of the wine production process.
The local gastronomy is rich in traditional dishes that represent a true journey into memory. One of the most famous dishes is "pipi" (peppers) with potatoes or roasted sausage, but you can also enjoy them with cod, octopus, and anchovies. Among the desserts, we recommend tasting the "chinuliddi" (grape mustard-filled biscuits), the "crispeddi a vento," and the "tardiddi e crustuli" (Christmas sweets).
